I just noticed it’s November and the last time I posted was September. My house is rather quiet and I don’t have an alarm clock.

Can’t believe I almost slept through all of autumn. Wow, I missed all the fall leaves turning colors and falling off the trees and blowing in the wind. Wait a minute. That was in my dream. We don’t have fall colors here. The palm trees here stay green even on Christmas day. There are no fall leaves blowing in the wind.

Now, I remember, it was a story I read about little kitties chasing butterflies and leaves in the cool air. Yeah, I think I’ll go back to sleep and think of something to post soon.

Do you know what the idiom, the cat’s meow, means? Ok, I guess first things first. I’m assuming you know what an idiom means? No, it doesn’t mean you are an idiot.

However, you will sound like an idiot if you are talking to people who have never heard of the idioms you are using!

Definition of idiom: from online Dictionery.com –

1.

a group of words whose meaning cannot be predicted from the meanings of the constituent words, as for example ( It was raining ) cats and dogs

Now did that make a lick of sense?

Here’s the definition I made up: a bunch of words put together that don’t make sense but people use it within a certain language to mean something to people who speak that language.

Don’t you think my definition is better? If you don’t, don’t bother telling me that.

So, what does this have to do with the title, The Cat’s Meow?

Well, did you know that The Cat’s Meow is an idiom that means absolutely the very best of something?

Wow, isn’t that neat? You don’t hear any dog idioms meaning such wonderful things. Do you know what “The Dog’s Bark” means?

It means a dog is barking. Woopie, very impressive.

So, from now on, make sure everything you do has The Cat’s Meow touch.

OK, I have to confess. I don’t think there’s such a word as “cataphobia.” The real word is Ailurophobia. Now, if I’d have put the word ailurophobia in the title, how many of you would have looked to see what I wrote. No, you’d have simply thought that I had my paws mixed up on the keyboard!

Can you believe that there are some people in the world that are afraid of cats? That fear is called Ailurophobia. I don’t know why anyone would ever be afraid of a cat. We’re cuddly (most of the time), seek affection (some of the time), keep ourselves clean without you telling us to (most of the time), and shower you with affection (when we feel like it). What’s there to be afraid of?

And, even worse than being afraid of us, can you even begin to believe that there are humans who hate cats? I can’t think of a single reason anyone should hate cats.

But, my mom had a friend one time who was so afraid of birds that she wouldn’t get out of the car if birds were near, and she never went to parks because of birds in the trees. She really was afraid! I’ll have to look that up. I don’t know what being afraid of birds is called.

But, next time you meet someone who is afraid of cats or hates cats would you try to change their mind? Tell them about all our great virtues and how we are so wonderful and how humans could not live in the world without cats. Thanks. I appreciate that.

(Send me a note below, would you, of how you tried to share with the world how great cats are.)

Did you know it took sixteen (16) presidents of the United States of America before one owned a cat in the White House? What were they thinking? How did they get rid of all the wonderful treats living in the cracks of the walls and in the cupboards of the kitchen? That’s just plain nasty to think they never used any of us. Just plain nasty. I can’t begin to picture all those wonderful little mice scurrying around having free-reign of the entire White House because there were no cats living there. Shame on them.

Abraham Lincoln who was 16th president was the first president to own a cat in the White House. Guess what its name was? Tabby. You heard me. Tabby. So, creative. I guess Lincoln had other things to think about at that time.

Oh, and I don’t mean to speak ill of the dead–or living, for that matter, so I guess I’ll say that Tabby sounds like a perfectly fine, sophisticated name for a feline.

(What’s your favorite cat name? You can tell me below.)

That title could sound cute–like the Dr. Seuss title, Cat in the Hat, but it’s not.

I loved it when my mom would read The Cat in the Hat book. Of course, she’s got a half of one book shelf of cat books. Hmmm, I just thought about it. She’s got book shelves all over her house in almost every room. And, she’s only got HALF of one shelf for cat books? That’s not fair. I’m going to have to do something about that.

Oh, but back to what I was talking about in what I named this: Cat in the Trash. I guess I’m really disappointed at how some people have no regard for living things. Everyone I’ve met is really nice, . . . I know I run and hide in the closet when people come around, but it’s not because they are mean.

A 45-year old woman named, . . . no, I’m not going to give her name. I’m sure she’s been hounded enough, and I don’t want to be one to add misery to someone else’s life just because they’ve been mean. A mean person needs help and needs to have people pray that she would change.

Anyway, there was a lady, no, a woman, in England who was walking along a sidewalk which had a small wall separating the sidewalk and some people’s yard. A kitty was walking along that wall and this woman reached out to pet it. The cat arched it’s back for more and rubbed against the woman’s hand for being so nice. The cat looked like it was offering affection and just wanted to be petted more from this woman passing-by. The woman pets the cat for a couple of seconds, notices a trash bin sitting there, lifts the lid on the trash bin, picks the cat up by the scruff of the neck and drops the cat in the bin, and puts the lid back on the trash bin–and the lady walks away.

Fifteen hours later the owner of the house finds their missing cat because they were fortunate enough to have surveillance cameras on their yard.

The surveillance video shows the woman doing this. The news reported it, and the woman was tracked down with her name and where she worked. You know what she said?

”I thought it would be funny.” And anyway, she added, “It’s just a cat.”

I can’t imagine anyone thinking locking-up a cat is funny or locking-up anything like that is funny. But what kind of person says, “it’s just a cat?” Sure, I’m quite partial to cats since I am one, but I would feel the same way if it was a rabbit or even a dog! You know, I’m not always fond of dogs, but I wouldn’t want to see that done to a dog either!

(You don’t know anyone who would do something like this, do you? What do you think. You can tell me below.)

Yeah, I know. That’s totally lame! No, wait a minute. I’m lame, really I am. Part of my foot was gone when I was born. But, I’ve always gotten around like any other cat–it’s just now that I’m, uh, older, and a little wider in my behind, well, I don’t jump very well. Well, truthfully? I don’t jump at all. But, that’s OK. I have everyone trained to do things that I need for them to do. People really aren’t as hard to train as I’d heard they were.

Oh, but what about kitten britches? Well, my mom threatened to put some on me a couple of times when I waited too long to head way out to the garage where my litter box is kept. I promised I wouldn’t do it again and she dropped the kitten britches subject.

Holy cow! That’s not why I brought up kitten britches. Guess I didn’t really have to admit that little accident in the last paragraph, but I don’t want to have to go back and delete it, so I’ll leave it.

What I was really talking about is that I heard my mom say that one time–the whole phrase.

She said that when she was just a kitten, I mean, little girl, that she used to have a southern drawl because she grew up in really southern Oklahoma. She admitted that instead of saying the word “for” as anyone should it, she always said “fur” like half the other people did in southern Oklahoma. Well, every time she’d ask her mom, “What for” it came out “What fur?”

That’s when her mom replied every single time (which got really really really old after a while), “What fur? Cat fur. To make kitten britches.”

Yeah, like I said at the beginning. Sure makes a lot of sense–NOT! But, sometimes humans don’t have the expertise of us felines. They don’t always make a lot of sense. My mom said that dumb phrase means, “I’m not going to give you an answer and that’s the end of it.”

So, why didn’t my mom’s mom just say that?

(Since most of you that will respond are human, I’ll ask this. Do you ever say dumb things? You can tell me about it below.)

I’m sorry that I said “firemen.” I know some firemen are female. Well, that means they aren’t firemen they are firewomen. I’ve never heard anyone say, “firewomen to the rescue.” What are the women who fight fires called? Fire people who are women? Women who are firefighters? Yeah, that’s sounding better, women firefighters. I’ll just go with that.

Now, that I’ve got that settled I’ll get to my story.

My cousins, Skylar and Jack in California had a lemon-aid stand in the afternoon. Skylar called her mommy because the fire fighting people stopped in their firefighting truck at Skylar and Jack’s lemon-aid stand. They all bought some lemonade and brownies Skylar and Jack were selling.

Wasn’t that a nice thing to do?

Skylar and Jack sure thought so.

(Have you ever had a lemonade stand? You can tell me in the comment section below.)

Can you belive it? It seems like every time there’s an animal that needs to be rescued, the first ones on the spot are usually the fire department people. They rescue so many pets and strays and wild animals. They must have hearts of gold–like my fur.

Look at this Internet link for the story of a little 8-week old kitten who got stuck in the elbow of some PVC pipe. Poor thing! It had no water or food for several days–of course, come to think of it, that was probably good because you sure wouldn’t want to get bigger when it was already stuck. I know it was scared though.

But, the fire department people got it out. I’m sorry that I’m calling the little thing IT, but I don’t know whether it is a she or a he. I’m glad no one calls me an IT.

Anyway, it looks like it’s safe now–of course, I didn’t read the article until a couple of months after IT got stuck–I’m sure it has a nice little home now.

Oh, the link to look at it and read more is http://www.peoplepets.com/news/amazing/amazing-rescue-piper-the-kitten-survives-several-days-in-a-pipe/1 .

(Do you know anyone who has ever been rescued by the fire department?)

My dream woke me up. I was shaking and snorting at the same time. My legs twitched almost as much as my whiskers. Mom asked me, “What’s the matter, Boogs?”

How could I tell her? I didn’t want to tell her about all the bad stuff in my life before she took me home. I’ve heard it called animal cruelty. My dream is so real–probably because it did used to be real! I’m with my real brothers and sisters. We drink milk all the time and sleep and play and play and play. Then some mean boys come and one grabs me. That one said, “Look at the gimp” and pitched me a few feet away so they could see me walk back. I walked as best I could.

“Ha, ha, ha, that’s the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. A gimp cat. He could be Captain Hook’s cat. They’d look good together,” one of the little boys said.

That boy said I’d look good with somebody, but I didn’t know who they were talking about. I didn’t think that he honestly meant I would look good. I could tell he was making fun of me. The kids were always picking on me that way.

“You want to go with me?” the mom asked that mean boy. “We’ll take this one to the shelter. At least they can put it to sleep easily,” that mom said. She reached down and stuffed me into the bottom of some sort of bag.

I could tell we were in a car moving. I’d seen cars in cartoons. Back and forth. Back and forth. I can’t stand up–oh, that boy is swinging the bag. Oh, dear, my mouth tastes yucky. Oh, oh, ohhh, what’s that taste and what’s that gooey. . . . Oh, it’s all over me. Eeeww, it stinks.

I felt something cold–I found out later it was the counter that mom had laid the bag on. “I’m so sorry, I guess the poor cat got car sick. I didn’t mean to bring in an animal that stinks like this. He’s missing a foot, so I assume you could just put him to sleep.” And, that was the last time I heard that mom’s voice. I was glad never to hear that boy’s voice or have him pick me up ever again.

I just wish I wouldn’t dream about that sometimes. I like my home now. I love my mom and dad and they love me. But my dream is so real that it sometimes takes me a while to remember that was just a dream and that life was a long time ago.

I think I need another bed. I’ve got 3 beds (I don’t count mom and dad’s bed, the sofas or the top of mom’s desk) but you know, it’s like you can never have enough beds. I have one in my mom’s closet. That’s where I go when I hide out if strangers are around. I’ve heard about stranger-danger and you just can’t be too careful or know who to trust so I hide out so I don’t have to worry about anything. My bed in the closet is kinda cute–although it’s just a throw rug on the closet floor and then a cheetah print soft comfy blanket on top of that which my mom got at Big Lots when they opened here last year.

I’ve got a bed in the kitchen. That’s just sort of a thrown together bed (my mom thinks she made it really special for me). It’s a World War II wool blanket folded on the tile floor with a leopard print sleeping mat (that’s supposed to keep me warm) on top of that. Then she wrapped a towel and fastened it with pins because I do like to have a pillow. The towel is my pillow. It’s OK. I’ve had better.

My real bed is in her office. Everyone says it’s a dog bed. That makes me very mad when I hear that. It’s NOT a dog bed. My mom ordered it from the cat department in a cat catalog and it said, “made larger for rounder kitties” or something like that. I guess I am a little round, but I’m big-boned.

Anyway, I really like my beds, but my bed in the office is just brownish-beigeish-muckeldiduct fuzzy color. It’s boring. It’s really big and roomy and fluffy and comfy, but I’ve had it about 3 years. Don’t you think I should get a new bed now?
