Cat's Fur to Make Kitten Britches

Yeah, I know. That’s totally lame! No, wait a minute. I’m lame, really I am. Part of my foot was gone when I was born. But, I’ve always gotten around like any other cat–it’s just now that I’m, uh, older, and a little wider in my behind, well, I don’t jump very well. Well, truthfully? I don’t jump at all. But, that’s OK. I have everyone trained to do things that I need for them to do. People really aren’t as hard to train as I’d heard they were.
Oh, but what about kitten britches? Well, my mom threatened to put some on me a couple of times when I waited too long to head way out to the garage where my litter box is kept. I promised I wouldn’t do it again and she dropped the kitten britches subject.
Holy cow! That’s not why I brought up kitten britches. Guess I didn’t really have to admit that little accident in the last paragraph, but I don’t want to have to go back and delete it, so I’ll leave it.
What I was really talking about is that I heard my mom say that one time–the whole phrase.
She said that when she was just a kitten, I mean, little girl, that she used to have a southern drawl because she grew up in really southern Oklahoma. She admitted that instead of saying the word “for” as anyone should it, she always said “fur” like half the other people did in southern Oklahoma. Well, every time she’d ask her mom, “What for” it came out “What fur?”
That’s when her mom replied every single time (which got really really really old after a while), “What fur? Cat fur. To make kitten britches.”
Yeah, like I said at the beginning. Sure makes a lot of sense–NOT! But, sometimes humans don’t have the expertise of us felines. They don’t always make a lot of sense. My mom said that dumb phrase means, “I’m not going to give you an answer and that’s the end of it.”
So, why didn’t my mom’s mom just say that?
