Did you read about Oscar? He’s kind of my hero. I’m so happy for him even though I’ve never met him. My mom just read the article about him and that’s how I heard.
Oscar was in a terrible farming accident and lost both of his back feet. His mama and daddy sure must have loved him becasue they took him several places to see what could be done.
You know what? A doctor named Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick, a neuro-orthopedic surgeon (who I don’t know if he was an orthopedic surgeon for animals or people) made Oscar two new metal paws. They call them something like prosthetic feet. Isn’t that amazing? They call Oscar a bionic cat now. Wow. Just like the Bionic Woman and The Bionic Man that I’ve seen on the old TV re-runs. Wow. A bionic cat. I bet he clanks when he walks though.
The article talked about how dogs can be fitted to little carts, but you know what? Dogs are dogs. They don’t scamper high places and leap with a single bound like we do. Cats would never make it if they had to be limited to a lowly floor dragging a cart.
I always wondered why my mom and dad didn’t get me an artificial foot to replace the foot I don’t have. But, I did overhear one time the vet telling my mom to just take the whole leg off! Boy, I’m glad she didn’t listen to that vet. I’m thankful she never took me back there for anything! I was scared to death and hugged my mom’s neck so tight that no one could get my claws wrapped from around her neck! Even when we got back home, I just wanted to be held and cuddled and I purred really loud so she would keep holding me.
Well, I’m very happy for Oscar. That’s really a neat story for him. Oh, I forgot (I told you I’m always forgetting something, you can read about Oscar here at http://www.nydailynews.com/lifestyle/pets/2010/06/25/2010-06-25_bionic_cat_walks_again_with_artificial_paws.html . Sorry that link is so long. I told mom she should go to tinyurl and get a shorter link but she said she was in a hurry. If the link doesn’t work for you, let me know.
Hey, I told her again that no one would like that long web address for Oscar so she made it shorter. Try this and see if it doesn’t work better:
